Bruce Jenner: The interview

There was much anticipation about the Bruce Jenner interview by Diane Sawyer for 20/20. When i first heard  rumours that Bruce Jenner, Olympic champion and most notoriously, Kris Jenner's former husband from the Kardashian klan, was transitioning to become a woman, i didn't believe it, mainly because it came from tabloids. Also, i've seen every episode of 'Keeping Up with the Kardashians' and i don't think noone could have ever guessed that. But it turns out all the rumours were true and apart from the obvious surprise, because this came out of nowhere, i felt sorry for him. Not only was he under the scrutiny of the whole world and being chased by the paparazzi but he was also becoming everyone's joke. And that's really sad.

If there's something that i've always admired about Bruce Jenner was how sensible and level-headed he's always been (i'm talking of what i've seen in KUWTK), how he never got carried away by the reality show and if he had to tell that a situation was ridiculous he did (and there was tons of that show). And with that same common sense is how he faced this interview that could have turned him into pieces but his determination and bravery are only something to admire. He puts his soul out there and tells his story and you don't see a person who's confused or has some kind of internal issue, but someone who's always been very aware of what was going on with him and decided to wait in fear of how hurtful this could be to his sons and daughters. One can only watch this interview with a lot of empathy and respect, and you gotta root for Bruce Jenner because he's putting out there a tremendous example for transgenders, for talking so openly about an issue that many have hidden, suffered and keep struggling with it everyday amidst fears of discrimination or abuse, which is awful.

You can watch the Bruce Jenner interview with Diane Sawyer on ABCNews or this low quality video in youtube, but keep an open mind, this man has gone through enough and he's handling everything with a lot of courage and humour, which is something admiring (yeah, i've used the word 'admiring' a lot, but there's no other word to describe it better).
